Run Around Australia Week 2 Recap: 1,000KM DOWN—AND JUST GETTING STARTED!

Brooke is already past Week 2 of her Australia run. The kilometers are stacking up, the lessons are deepening, and every day brings a new challenge. From emotional reflections to game-changing conversations, here’s how the last few days have unfolded:

Day 9: A Moment of Reflection On Day 9, Brooke was hit with a wave of emotion while running, remembering her conversation with Kerwin Rae. It was a huge day—one of those moments that sticks with you. His words have fueled her journey, and as she pushes forward, she’s reminded that sometimes, the message speaks for itself.

Day 10: A Gritty 80KM Day 10 was a brutal one. The body was feeling every step, the heat was relentless, and the mind was bBrooke is already past Week 2 of her Australia run. The kilometers are stacking up, the lessons are deepening, and every day brings a new challenge. From emotional reflections to game-changing conversations, here’s how the last few days have unfolded:

Day 11: The Power of Connection On Day 11, a conversation with Suz shifted everything: “A problem shared is a problem halved.” This run isn’t just about the distance—it’s about the people, the connections, and the energy shared along the way. Brooke realized that joy is the key to big goals. If it doesn’t light you up, burnout will. She’s focused on balancing the push with fun, because without joy, the drive fades fast.

Day 12: Full Circle in Ravensthorpe On Day 12, Brooke ran through Ravensthorpe—the place where it all began. Back in 2022, she trained on these hills while working 14-hour shifts. Now, she’s back, but this time, it’s bigger than just training. She’s running for something greater. She’s sending love to those on tough journeys, especially the truckies out on the Nullarbor. Brooke’s just getting started.

Day 13: Rain, Wasps & Pure Excitement On Day 13, the rain came down, making an already tough run even harder. And just when she thought she’d seen it all—BAM. Stung by a wasp while trying to take a picture of a cow. First official medical incident of the run. But nothing, not rain, not stingers, not even a swollen hand, could dull her excitement. Brooke was counting down the kilometers to Esperance, knowing her family was waiting. Waking up next to Matt, seeing the kids—it hit her in all the feels. The next four hours of running felt different, powered by pure gratitude. And with a brewery event, a community run, and a full afternoon to switch off and soak it all in, this wasn’t just another day. This was what the mission was all about.

On Day 14, Brooke McIntosh made a stop at Lucky Bay Brewing, where she and Kendal Whyte shared a moment with the community—hosting a short talk and screening of her Gutsy Girls documentary. It wasn’t just about running; it was about bringing people together, having real conversations, and creating impact.

Day 15 started with a plan for 20km in Esperance, but like most things in her journey, it turned into more—22km alongside an incredible group of locals. Some hadn’t run more than 6km in years, yet they pushed through, proving that limits are often just in our heads. Brooke saw their determination, their willingness to do just one more, and it fueled her own fire.

The rest of the day was about soaking in the little moments—time with friends, quad biking, laughter, and even a bit of chaos with the kids. A rare chance to sleep in a real bed before the next stretch of relentless 80km days.

With the Nullarbor ahead, she knew the hardest days were coming. Three weeks of nothing but open road and pure grit. But Brooke’s not just out here for the physical challenge—she’s here to prove that every step, every conversation, every moment matters.

This run is about more than the kilometers. It’s about breaking mental barriers, raising voices for mental health, and showing people that they are never alone. And through it all, she’s reminding herself and everyone watching—take a moment to breathe, appreciate the journey, and always, always go for just one more.
