Run Around Australia Week 4 Recap: Pushing Past Limits On TOUGHEST days!

Four weeks in, and Brooke McIntosh is deep in the heart of the Nullarbor, pushing through some of the toughest days of her run around Australia. The roads are long, the heat is relentless, and the isolation is real—but in the hardest moments, the universe keeps reminding her why she’s out here.

Day 22: Running along the endless road, Brooke heard someone yell, “Go Brooke!” Out there in the middle of nowhere, she turned to see an elder riding his push bike across Australia. “He thought his body would give up first, but it was actually his mind,” Brooke shared. “Out here, you can’t hide from your thoughts. The emotions come up whether you like it or not.” She told him what she tells herself daily: Push for JUST ONE MORE.

That same day, a man slowed down his car to check on her. No reception, no way to call for help if she needed it—just human kindness showing up when it was needed most. “It reconfirmed to me that you’re never alone, even when it feels like you are,” she said.

Day 24: The emotions kept rolling in. During an ABC News interview, Brooke admitted, “I got EXTREMELY CHOKED UP. Not Kate’s fault—just a heart-pulling question. But I’m not the type to hold back my emotions, especially out here, running for mental health.”

Later, she met Johan from Holland, another wild encounter in the middle of nowhere. His advice? “Follow your heart, follow your inspiration, and joy will come into the world.” Brooke soaked in the wisdom: “That is today’s daily share.”

Day 25: A true outback rite of passage—Brooke officially became a Bogan Aussie. “Yes guys, it is literally my first outback turd,” she announced. “The caravan’s full, no toilet stops in sight, so I had to go full bush mode. Luckily, I had wipes on me—winning.” A moment of survival, a moment of pride.

Then, just when she thought the day couldn’t get more dramatic—disaster struck. “I thought I was about to break a leg! I hit a bloody cattle grid at full speed and snapped my ankle in it. Who put that thing there?!” The outback is not playing around.

Day 26: Time doesn’t even make sense anymore. “I don’t even know what time it is—my phone says one thing, my watch says another, time zones are messing with my head.” Dropped off at her starting point once again, she felt the weight of the challenge. “The repetition is TORTUROUS. The same roads, the same grind, the same brutal mental game.”

She realized why so many people give up on their dreams—not because they aren’t capable, but because they aren’t willing to push through the boring, repetitive, exhausting parts. “It’s the people who can do the boring shit day in, day out, who make their dreams happen.”

Day 27: A milestone like no other—Brooke McIntosh, mid-run, mid-thought, and boom… she gets her period. Some might call it an inconvenience. She calls it elite. After a decade of battling the effects of under-eating and over-exercising, losing her period along the way, this moment is proof—her body is strong, resilient, and thriving even after running 80km a day.

The night before, she pushed through 88km, unaware that her body was about to hit another milestone. Then, as donations hit $50K, she didn’t just celebrate—she ran 100km. On Day 27. On her period. No warnings, no planning for it. Just sheer grit, pushing forward, and proof that her body isn’t just keeping up—it’s thriving.

She knew this run could take a toll. She knew there was a risk of losing it again. But here she is, still pushing, still feeling, still standing strong. This isn’t just about running—it’s about holistic health, listening to the body, fueling it right, and protecting her energy.

Day 28: Standing at the edge of the Great Australian Bight, she’s overcome with emotion. Not pain. Not exhaustion. Just pure gratitude. The ocean’s power, the energy, the weight of this journey—it all hits different. Every step taken is a testament to resilience, proof that pushing through the dark leads to a light that’s brighter than ever imagined. She’s here, she’s feeling, and she’s running with purpose—because this is bigger than her.

Even on the toughest days, Brooke keeps going. And she’s got one thing to say to anyone feeling stuck:

“Just one more. Show up. Keep going. No distractions. No quitting. Just one more.”
